Hummeroid wrote

No, you're right. I run the higher end Cane Creek ones now, even sold my King because of seeing far too many bikes with cut steerers from them. The High end CC ones have bearings that are as good as King IMO, at least Id never be able to feel a difference.

Hummeroid wrote
Sep 23, 2008 at 16:33
Its not even a tolerance issue. Its the fact that the headset has no solid centering system for the steerer. A freakin o-ring?! Give me a break. Even the cheapest cane creek headsets have a tapered aluminum capture ring to keep the steerer centered. The king design is one of those things thats OK for XC, but long travel single crowns....not so much.

thanks for the advice, i'll hav to have a proper look when I've next ridden and realise how bad i need to get on the case! hopefully goin triscombe on thursday cos it's my birthday and I gotta ride so bad. did you go to france or anywhere this year? ive been lookin at peoples pictures and gettin so jealous man!! havent properly ridden since moelfre which is shameful but i been in london and gettin out is a complete mission. Cool thing is i just moved to bradford on avon for 6months or so and the place has a giant amount of land between several households and i came across some dirtjumps which are in need of some serious attention so now im excited to see if they'll let me sort them out and make them rideable again. where is your local riding spots? I looked at your pics again and totally remembered who you were at moelfre now.

canarybird wrote
Sep 14, 2008 at 12:42
yeah that was basically the reason - want some forks a bit more lady-friendly! your friend would probs be ok getting it down the hill but pushing it up's a bugger when you're small and since i started riding bikes my shoulders got proper beefed up haha! i started riding dh on a giant atx in a small size partly cos it was cheap and partly cos they come really small although when i was looking to buy another i just tried out everyones bikes at the woods to see what i like the feel of: i liked ones with a longer top tube/wheelbase and my patriot is good for that. i reckon fox 36's would be cool cos i have some well old boxxer 151's which are actually the same travel (like about 6inch) and it'd be all weird and high with something bigger...i dont think im gonna race moelfre cos its well expensive and i was crap on that track haha. i thought about marshallnig but its a bit of a drive. are you gonna race that one then? sorry for the long blabbing note!

canarybird wrote
Sep 12, 2008 at 10:38
hiya mate yeah i was at moelfre! it was a bit shambolic what with sam bein somewhat reckless :-S maybe i'll go again next summer and have a less disastrous time lol. i am after some forks yessss however im wanting either some more boxxers or a set of fox 36's when i have the money. sam got me a set of 888s but i didnt like them at all so i made him sell them which was a bit rude but they were abit heavy duty for me, thanks a lot for the headsup tho Smile

If you watch the Kovarik bike check video he says that he's running the Hayes brakes for testing to help them out. Races a bit on them and reports back, but yes he and the rest of the team have Ones too.

jason222bike wrote
Jul 29, 2008 at 17:25
Well, water can't really be compressed, so the lever feel isn't spongy at all, and water bleeds have faster rebound as well, so the brake can be on/off quite quickly! That and it's pretty easy to bleed with water, just toss the whole system in a bucket of water, open the bleed valves, and pull the lever a few times!

jason222bike wrote
Jul 29, 2008 at 16:39
Yeah...you can bleed some brakes with water, depends what the insides are like. If there's anything that will corrode, or if the seals are crappy, it wont work. It works great with Magura hs-33 brakes though...
